Create the business rule

In this example, you create a business rule that sends a push notification when the severity of an incident is set to High.

Before you begin

You must create and deploy the object event handler before creating the business rule.

Procedure

  1. In Oracle Service Cloud, click the Configuration button on the navigation pane.

  2. Under Site Configuration, double-click Rules.

    The Rules Designer opens.

  3. Make sure that Incident is selected in the ribbon.

    Incident is the default object.

  4. Right-click the Initial state (or the state that is designated as the initial state) and select New Rule.

  5. Name the rule Apple Push Notification.

  6. Under Add Options, select Add IF Condition Based On > Incident > Severity.

    The If condition appears.

  7. From the operator drop-down menu, choose equals.

  8. Select High from the list of severities.

  9. Under Add Options, select Add Action — Then > Execute Object Event Handler.

    The Then condition appears.

  10. Select apns_incident from the drop-down menu.

  11. Click Save to save the business rule.

  12. Click Compile to compile the rule base (entire sets of rules for the Incident object).

If compilation is successful, you will receive the message: Rulebase compiled with no errors.

  13. Click OK to close the message.

  14. Click Activate to make the rule base active.

A message appears to tell you that the rule base is activated.

  15. Click OK to close the message.

Results

Push notifications are now active. When an incident’s severity is set to High, a push notification will be sent to the iOS device.
