If you're seeing a difference in behaviour between 3.0.1 and 3.1 then you may
be seeing a side-effect of the following bugfix:

I'm not sure exactly what the current behaviour is. I'll ask a colleague of
they can advise.
That bug related to embedded mode only. Can you try with a broker type of
"local" instead? That would help to confirm where the problem lies.
