I confirm that I suspect something with your installation. I am successfully using flexiblejdbcrealm in glassfish 3 without problem. I recommend the following:
- reinstall (with old installation complete deletion) glassfish
- using asadmin to create / configure realm NOT admin console since admin console event in stable build (3.0) has errors listing at least properties associated to realms
- enabling FINEST logging on path: org.wamblee.glassfish.auth using i.e. asadmin
"asdamin set-log-level org.wamblee.glassfish.auth=FINEST"
