You should probably download the latest version of GlassFish or GlassFish ESB whatever the one you installed. Just make sure this is a version 2.1.
With GlassFish v2.1 b60e + grizzly 1.0.30, I made sure the problem I got was solved.
From the descriptions you made, your problem could be related to the one I got.
