No, Java developers are no different from any other developers. Talking with developers is an acquired skill, but the platform is pretty much irrelevant. I work with happy people daily who haven't a clue what it is I do.

As you work with the developers, you'll learn the ins and outs of Java development, you'll learn their vocabulary, etc.

You can be confident that the platform isn't what will make your project succeed or fail. It will be all sorts of other external factors unrelated to Java.

And like any platform, the Java community is filled with folks from across the spectrum.
