I can't think of any reason that the behavior of GlassFish v2.1 would change.
Did you verify that the appclient command used to launch had not changed? Do you use the -mainclass option or do you rely on the app client JAR's manifest Main-Class setting to indicate the main class of the client? If you rely on the manifest, it is as you expect? Is the main class actually in the app client JAR or in some other JAR along the class path?
