I followed the first choice:
export APPCPATH=$APPCPATH:/opt/glassfish/domains/domain1/lib/ext/myexternaljar1.jar:/opt/glassfish/domains/domain1/lib/ext/log4j-1.2.15.jar

..and it worked!
