It is not harsh to say I've seen zero value. There may be some long
term value, but as an immediate build issue, it's simply a hassle.

Note that I am not arguing against the system in general, just that I
think it's premature to be causing build headaches by using fixed
versions.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), is that if SNAPSHOTs are
used, then doing a current build would always work.
