And most likely this is related to app/web servers' trying to "be
compatible" with Windows paths, allowing use of backslashes as alias
for regular slashes. Such that users could cut'n paste windows file
paths etc and it would 'just work'.
And if so, unintended result is that effectively backslashes can't be
reliably included in path
