Re: Installing JWSDP 1.5 with JDK 1.5

Hi Kevin,

"The customer is always right". I finally was able to reproduce the
problem.

I did a complete Search on the whole disk of my W2K system
and there were some other java.exe's I didn't realize were
there. When I deleted them, and tried the install
(clicking on the installer) the dos box came up with the
usual messages but it vanished without the GUI appearing.

Your system must have been squeaky clean :-)

The problem is that all sorts of applications install their own
private copies of java.exe and javaw.exe. So when we tested
with JDK 5 we got a false positive. InstallShield is like the
energizer bunny in looking for java. It was finding an
older 1.4 version of Java to actually run the installer. But
when the GUI displayed the JDKs it found only the
version 5 appeared.

Thanks for reporting this. Sorry for the trouble it has caused
you.

Tom
