Hi Linda,
Now that we agree on the intent of the clause, maybe I could suggest an
alternative to my alternative... :-) It was pointed out in a private
email that even my re-wording left some ambiguity...

How about this? Any better?

"The Java EE Product is not required to support permissions.xml files that
