There is no way to get to GlassFish 3.1.2.2 to 3.1.2.7 using open source binaries.

Correct, but you can also patch from Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 to 3.1.2.9. FYI, Oracle GlassFish Server 3.1.2.x is supported until March 2016 (Premier support) and March 2019 (extended support).
