I performed your suggested experiment; expanded my foo.ear, and also foo.war
and foo-ejb.jar (but not lib/*jar) and then used the Admin Console to deploy
the expanded directory.
It was blindingly fast.
I guess that Glassfish in this case simply sets up a few pointers to the
expanded directory?
Of course, unzipping my foo.ear, foo.war and foo-ejb.jar (using WinZip) took
a few seconds, but not much (say, 10 s).
So Glassfish 3.1.1 Autodeploy clearly does something more than that. I look
forward to a final release of 3.1.2! ;-)
