You probably don't need to use gmbal because this is for creating mbeans. 
You should still be able to use the AMX API to create the JDBC connection
pool.  I see them being used in our quicklook tests:

  From the error above, it seems like there's a problem in getting the
connection to the mbean server.  Can you try connecting with jconsole using
the same connection parameters.
