I am always wondering if a simple Date wouldn'r be more effective to
identify software releases ...

something like:

Glassfish 20090804

for sure less sexy than 3.0 or 2.0 .. but perhaps more concise in
terms of what version is the latest one :)

just my 2 cents.......
