JMX authentication looks at admin-realm. If it happens to be LDAP realm, it will make sure that the user in LDAP belongs to asadmin group before allowing access.

If you need to use the same LDAP directory to authenticate administrators for more than one installation of glassfish then you will need slightly more complex LDAP realm configuration.
