Hi, David.
Which specific version of Java are you using on the client? Are you certain that Java was not upgraded to Java 6 update 7, perhaps automatically?
This is exactly the symptom we've seen resulting from the problem reported in the thread at
http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=44411&tstart=135
and logged as Issue 5374
https://glassfish.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5374
Can you please verify which specific version of Java is active on the client and let us know? If this is a different problem we need to understand it.
