I had a similar problem earlier running a tomcat with JMX enabled on some
Linux machine, which did start up rather well but, despite this (and despite
even the JMX being up and listening according to netstat), refused remote
connections (JConsole), this being even while having the host name <-> ip
address resolvable via DNS. Getting this configured the right way via
/etc/hosts did solve it, these days. Maybe this is something to check on
your system as well?
Note however that I am by no means a JMX configuration expert so there might
be people on this list with more knowledge on this...
