I don't think that it'd have to be an extension to the JEE standards. The app-server specific deployment descriptors could contain resource defintions, basically snippets from the domain.xml to setup data sources, pools, destination factories, etc.
That could be a very convenient feature to simplify the deployments and really make it a one-step process.
