Now that I have been successfully able to get load balancing and clustering working I have been able to deploy the same EAR across all instances within the cluster via the admin gui.
From there I have the option to enable load balancing across both the application and instances in the cluster. Which appears to work.
This brings up another question though, what happens if I have application load balancing disabled but have load balancing enabled for all instances in the cluster? Does the application get bound to only one instance for requests? If that instance goes down does it then get propagated to another instance?
