Thanks Dies and Sahoo,

as you hinted, the problem was that I launched the wrong [b]asadmin[/b] due to my PATH environment variable which included the Sun App Server BIN directory and NOT the GlassFish App Server BIN directory.

So I'm back to the quick start guide,
