Hi All,
Last Friday afternoon Satya, Arun, Sandeep and I met SJSU professor Dr
Gao to talk about how Sun (GlassFish) and
SJSU Software Engineering department can work together to use GF in
their enterprise testing and component development
courses. Following is the meeting minutes to share with you. We
GlassFish Quality Community is looking forward to this
collaboration so we can have more university students to learn and
contribute to GlassFish and it's quality !
Thanks,
Judy

Hello Dr. Gao, Satya, Arun, and Judy,
Thanks for all of your time for discussion on how Sun (GlassFish)
and SJSU Software Engineering department can work together in
multi-faceted form. It was a good start in understanding what each of us
have to offer and are interested in working on. I am capturing a high
level abstract of what we discussed and next steps. Please feel free to
add on to this anything I might have missed.
1. Sun and Dr. Gao will look into materials appropriate for
enterprise testing and component development courses (CMPE 284 and
CMPE 275)
2. Sun and Dr. Gao will work on proposing summer projects as well as
CMPE 295 projects for MS students
3. Sun and Dr. Gao will work on research oriented projects aimed at
enterprise component testing and automation. Perhaps even
collaborate on teaching and training materials, books and journal
publications.
4. Satya will work with Dr. Gao on getting some of his contacts to
contribute towards industry inputs
5. Dr. Gao is willing to offer consulting, training, and academic
research (state of the art) services to Sun.
6. Dr. Gao would like to invite one member from GlassFish community
for a conference to talk about our experiences, lessens learned
and solutions for enterprise test automation.
AI: Sun
1. Look at what existing tutorial, sample or demo is appropriate for
testing course. Points to consider
* New component testing (with and without customization)
* Interacting component testing (two dependent components)
* Testing of a group of interacting components that make up a
single app
* SOA enterprise component testing
2. Look at what existing tutorial, sample or demo is appropriate for
enterprise component development course
3. What projects are more appropriate for Summer course
4. If SJSU students were to be given a task of finding the most
important bug (or best test or automation), what would that
program be, and what would be the process of going about doing this.
AI: Dr. Gao
1. Look at GlassFish community and available components within it
2. Provide feedback on what aspects of GlassFish would be more
appropriate for students
Next Step:
1. Identify short term and long term activities and get details for
each of these.
Thanks,
Sandeep
