Lance,

Ah. I am not familiar with how NB starts the server. They use
java -jar I guess (but I am not sure) and I don't know which
java they use.

See Peter's response for other details.

My procedure of how server chooses a JVM applies only when
the server is started with "asadmin start-domain domain-name".

I guess I should blog about it. (I guess Peter -- you should also
blog about how NB starts the domain that's controlled by NB).
