$(id) is the same as document.getElementById(id), it's an extension from the
prototype framework dynafaces is based on.

We're not going anywhere close to a solution, maybe a word from the
woodstock team would help.
Maybe it's just that 4.2 M1 is too young and we need to wait for a further
release
