I reckon it'd depend on wehther the existing signature is preserverd or the second parameter is removed.

In the former case it would have a return nothing (void) in the the case of success or throw WebApplicationException in the case of
failure.

In the latter case I'd just update JavaDocs with something like : if 2nd parameter is null then (the same) null is returned, and an
endpoint is created and started as part of this method's execution, instead of the current 2-stage process.

I'd prefer the signature update I think....
