Personally, if it referred to the current version (2.0 at least, but
preferably JDK7+2.1.5), I would definitely buy it. I can't tell you how
often I go to buy some reference Java book and don't bother because they are
at least 2 major revisions out of date.

That being said, there are a few approaches (at least as indexes) that I
think would be really helpful...
1. Getting started - with(out) JDK6+, with(out) Maven, with(out) XJB files,
etc
2. Examples of the settings in the popular plugins (esp. the maven jaxb2
plugin)
3. The "If I want to do XYZ, how do I...." kind of index... This part is
aimed more towards the quick reference
4. FAQ for any thread that has appeared, say, at least 3 times on the list

I think your uidea of "what is generated, how and why" would be very key.
Many times users say "it is doing X but it has to do Y, what do I do"
