Performance of signed and not compressed jar files?

In jaxb-1.0.1 jar files were not signed and not compressed.
In jaxb-1.0.2 they are both singed and not compressed.

Anectdotal tests here seem to suggest that the new scheme does not help
at all, rather to the contrary, it seems a nightmare for unix like
command line programs...

What is the performance difference of class loading/searching the 1.0.2
jars vs 1.0.1 in your experience?

Does signing help or defeat the whole purpose? Same for not compressing
jars? Any experimental data to back up claims?

Thanks,
Wolfgang.
