Re: JAX-RPC jar too big

Mete,
We are still very aware of this issue and we do hope to come up with a
solution. We are hoping that we can greatly reduce the
jar file size in JAXRPC 2.0. In the meantime, the jar file in JWSDP
1.5 is large because it is not compressed. If you unpack the
jar file and then repack it with compression it should only be about 2.1
MB. However, doing so we remove the signature. I wish we
could do something else for you at this time but there are some
restrictions to what we can do with JAXRPC 1.x that makes it very
difficult to reduce the size of the jar files by any significant amount.

Thank you for your patience

We wanted to use JAX-RPC but we couldn't because the JAX-RPC implementation provided in the JWSDP was too large (several megabytes) and it would make the size of our Java applet three times!! Since then this project has been sleeping but now recently it has revived again. Back then, a Sun employee had said that they were planning on working on this and providing a smaller jar for clients using JAX-RPC which don't need all the server classes. Has there been any such work done? I just downloaded JWSDP 1.5 and the jaxrpc-impl.jar is more than 5 megabytes large!! Is there a limited jar available for small footprint Web service clients?
