In "Final Draft Candidate" (JSF_20090506.pdf), section 5.3 makes no mention of the annotations. But it does give an example using faces-config.xml. The JavaDocs for the annotations are fine, but I would have expected the annotations to be mentioned in the spec *somewhere*.
Also, the third bullet of section 5.3 mentions request, view, session, and application, but not custom or none.
