I wonder why so many people leave Oracle. ;-)

I suspect that person is no longer at Oracle (really, not a joke).

Perhaps you could find an ear by discovering who at Oracle was involved with getting OpenOffice into the Apache foundation?

Reza,
thank you for speaking frankly.
I wonder whether there is any person at Oracle who is really willing to discuss a friendly
migration of the GlassFish project management from their own (possibly no-more-existing team) to the Payara team?

Personally I don't think there is much point to waiting to hear back from Oracle on just about anything other than their commercial products. And even then you'd be pushing your
luck unless you are one of their multi million dollar customers...
Just my two cents.

While I was roaming several JUGs about that idea, I was always a bit reluctant with
such a public address – I wanted to get Oracle’s opinion first, but while a lot of Oracle people discussed the idea with me, no officials ever decided for or against it…

This too would be a great idea. Perhaps such issues are worth writing a blog entry about?

Reza,
thank you for this insight.
I wonder why Oracle not simply opens the further project management of GlassFish to
the community, so we can simply build up our own organizational structures to keep this valueable open source project alive – possibly with Payara staff as managers?

Officially speaking, yes GlassFish is the RI for Java EE. Practically speaking with how much of the EE 8 work now done by the community, it may soon become a good idea to work with
Payara if actively engaged in spec development or evaluation.
The Payara team has always made it clear their goal is to merge as much work back into GlassFish as possible. We are yet to see the same strong commitment from Oracle to supporting
the community in moving GlassFish and Java EE 8 forward. We hope to see such a commitment and tangible effort to back up that commitment some time in the future.

Hey Reza,
Will GF5 be the reference implementation of Java EE 8?
It seemed that Payara contributed back to GF. Is it still the case?
Cheers,
Yannick

You really should look into Payara. I doubt anyone would responsibly advise you to use plain GlassFish for anything other than learning.
Oracle officially stopped supporting GlassFish commercially a while back. Consequently GlassFish is hardly a maintened code base any more. I doubt that will change any time in the
future.
