There are 2 possible answers..one is to implement an EJB callback handler

*the action will notify <n> listeners of an event when attributes of a monitored EJB resource changes*
the other answer configures client to provide a JS callback to the back end servlet
where the servlet will asynchronously notify the clients JS callback (when there is a output result to report on)
this mechanism of exchanging XML data Asynchronously is labelled 'Ajax'
