The workaround is to deploy the application, undeploy it, then deploy it again and everything works. This makes me queasy, because if the classloader couldn't see them the first time around, then the only way it could see them the second time around is to--maybe?--be loading up classes from an undeployed application. :-\ Or something equally dubious.
Anyway, the workaround works, but I see a situation here that is--maybe?--a big hole in the specification.
