This is now resolved. So, for anyone else who experiences this issue, it was the Oracle 11g ojdbc6.jar driver:

   1. 11.1.0.6.0-Production (linux) => Connections Leak
   2. 11.1.0.6.0-Production+ (win) => Connections Leak
   3. 11.1.0.7.0-Production (downloaded) => NO Connections Leak
   4. 11.2.0.1.0 (downloaded) => NO Connections Leak
