You have 2 options here.
1. Bring up updateool, by running glassfishv3/glassfish/bin/updateool
In the Preference window, Updates tab, uncheck the box "Automatically check for updates". Save.
Admin Console will honor this and won't check for update when it starts up. You can still go to the updatetool tree nodes and check for updates.
2. set the system property "com.sun.enterprise.tools.admingui.NO_NETWORK" to true. Admin Console will not attempt to connect to the network at all.
