Could you please post your connection pool configuration and the exception you are getting from the server.log. Ideally, there should be some configuration issue because of which the ping failed. http://blogs.sun.com/arungupta/entry/ttd_121_jdbc_resource_for is a good blog that explains how to configure the same.
