Most likely there are some jars which were declared as component jars (like ejb jar etc) are not really component jars. Please check the packaging of the jars which were declared as ejb jar, appclient jar etc to see if they contain valid JavaEE components in them.

BTW: The NPE was fixed to be a better error message in later builds:
