Yes, based on your description (the image is inside the app client JAR) you are definitely running into that issue.
In the issue I described a workaround for GlassFish 2.x which is to place the image in the EAR and not (only) in the app client JAR which is inside the EAR.
Please try that and let us know if that works for you.
