1. A Personal domain is a domain that is owned by the person running the IDE... in a location that they choose. It is very similar to "asadmin create-domain blah blah blah --domaindir USER-SELECTED-PATH domain-name". One important note about a personal domain... It does not use the 'standard' ports, so if you create one, you will need to pay attention to the use of hard-coded ports in the tutorial code.

If you want to create a personal domain that uses the standard ports, create a domain using asadmin and be sure to specify the domaindir argument...

2. I would not recommend trying to work-around the ownership and permissions protections on the /opt/SUNWAppserver directory to make that possible.
