Tim and Sahoo,

thank you so much for your valueable ideas. Actually I was pretty astonished when the customer last night reported that the jce.jar was actually completely missing! I suspect that the virus scanner which he installed last weekend thought that the file is infected and removed it (I never heard about infected JARs ever before so I think it is a bug in the scanner). After placing a copy of that file back into the right JRE location, GlassFish startet up just normally! :-)
