That kind of helped in that I decided to try using mod_proxy rather than ajp. I finally got it working by doing this. I've been pretty happy with mod_jk but I'll accept mod_proxy at least at the moment.
I'm just trying to do some benchmarking now, initial tests showed Glassfish a lot faster than JBoss 4.2.3 but some other tests showed nowhere need the same improvement.
