So here is what I am thinking; I will install the glassfish webstack as an independent running as a intranet server and, I will install netbeans as a IDE platform to work with. I know netbeans comes with all that I am asking but from what I observed before is that when netbeans closes it will stop the glassfish server. This I do not want to happen and that is why I want to install them as separate entities. Is this the best way?

NetBeans stops only the servers that were started within NetBeans.
If you start the application server outside NetBeans, using command line
tool like
asadmin start-domain.....
You'll be fine, NetBeans will not stop it when exiting.
