Embedded APIs have been changing. That is why that code is not working.
The code example here should work.

Also, the javadoc APIs are pretty up-to-date

You can use the promoted jar files from here
http://download.java.net/glassfish/v3-prelude/embedded/promoted/
The *web* jar is a subset of *all* jar. They both contain the embedded APIs and GlassFish modules.
