JMX APIs are provide for you to build a custom monitoring tool.
Also Check out,
https://esb-console.dev.java.net/ that is currently
under construction and promises to meet the Open-ESB needs running on
Glassfish V3.

To be more specific, for those of us who use openview or nagios or zabbix or some sort of monitoring solution, how is monitoring glassfish remotely recommended?
With Jboss there's an snmp adaptor that exposes mbeans that you define and you can query the snmp port for heap / cnx pool / thread pool / session info etc.
With Websphere there is the PMI interfaces and you can use wsadmin to get this info.
How can an organization professionally monitor glassfish from a monitoring solution outside of things like visualvm which are not made to be a 24/7 centralized monitoring tool that logs the information for posterity?
TIA,
Andrew
