Woops.
Turns out it was my own mistake. Well---more or less. The application server apparently throws this exception, but it really is not a problem. Deploying a very simple EJB with remote interface, and a small client program to look it up in JNDI works fine.
Some tests on other platform (windows, nebeans 6.1), I see the same exception on Windows and other platforms.
