I found the error, I think.
It appears that using commons logging does not like being deployed in a application server because of the way it loads the log4j classes..

I am trying to configure an application to use log4j and I don't want to configure it globally.
How do I make the log4j properties and jar files to be seen by glassfish within my ear file?
