Just to confirm, you were running GF that came with NetBeans, not the
one installed through standalone GF installer, right?

In that use case bootstrap of UC is performed by UC bootstrap scripts
which attempt to detect system/browser proxy settings and pass them to
Java based bootstrap API and I believe we had some issues with proxy
setting parsing, see this one and its corresponding UC project issue....

Once you are past the bootstrap part, everything is handled by python
based client so you are not going through same code path again. That
would explain while bootstrap chokes with proxy settings and then
everything gets back to normal.
