Yes Roller "Social Software" in the update tool is a good example of
that and Jim's blog I mentioned is what you need.
The server-side is "just" an XML file (catalog), no runtime involved.
Of course, you'd have to add the new update center source in the
"Preferences" tab of the updatetool.
