Thank you for your tips. It works fine now. The oringal blog mentioned the change to default-web.xml AND "redeploy" the webapp. I simply didn't pay attention to the "redeploy" portion. Even the restart of glassfish server won't "redeploy" the webapp, must go into the admin (4848) to "redeploy" liferay-portal webapp physically. Well, another painful lesson learned.
