You should post your properties.
We use a remote server, and it works fine.
From the console:
Mail Host: xxx.com
User Name: abc
Default Return Address: abc_at_xxx.com
Status: Enabled
Advanced:
Store Protocol: imap
Store Protocol Class: com.sun.mail.imap.IMAPStore
Transport Protocol: smtp
Transport Protocol Class: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport
That's it, we only use it for outgoing mail.
Sounds like you may be using a different port than stock SMTP? (Cuz smtp's default port IS 25...)
