Ramesh and Zoltan,
Thank you both for the help with this! I was able to get my EJB3 MDB to receive messages from ActiveMQ, using the resource adapter that ships with ActiveMQ.

The thing I was missing all along was the mdb-resource-adapter tag in the deployment descriptor. Once I added it things worked perfectly!
